ABSTRACT
This note explores the history of government intervention into embryon- ic stem cell research. In particular, this paper focuses on how the decisions of the federal government have threatened research being done at colleges and universities, both because educational institutions are the primary source of basic research into the possibilities of embryonic stem cells, and because colleges and universities receive most of their research funding from the federal government. In the end, I argue that, while it is necessary for government officials to take ethical considerations into account when deciding whether to fund scientific research, it is important to also consider the effects such decisions have on educational institutions.
