How to Volunteer for NACUA

Volunteer engagement is at the heart of NACUA’s mission and success. NACUA prides itself on being an organization by and for its members. The active engagement of volunteers is core to ensuring that NACUA’s educational offerings and resources are current and reflect the excellence for which NACUA is known. The active participation of members serving on committees, advisory groups, and editorial boards enables NACUA to expand its reach, respond effectively to evolving member needs, and deliver a wide range of programs and services that support higher education attorneys across the country. NACUA is committed to creating meaningful ways for members to get involved—while remaining mindful of the demands on their time and workloads.

Volunteer to Serve on a Committee or Editorial Board

Committees are essential to NACUA’s ability to deliver high-quality programs and services each year. Whether you are in your first year of membership or your fiftieth, your ideas, input, and expertise are key to NACUA’s success. The work that we do is only made possible through the active engagement and service of members like you.

By volunteering with NACUA, you are giving back to your fellow members and contributing to the work NACUA does to fulfill its mission of advancing the effective practice of higher education attorneys for the benefit of the colleges and universities they serve. Volunteer service is also an opportunity to build on your skills and expand your professional network.

The call for 2026-2027 committee and editorial board volunteers is now open — submit your volunteer form today! Committee appointments will begin over the summer and conclude in October, after which, the work for most committees and editorial boards will kick off. To learn more about the charge and work of each of these important volunteer groups, please visit the committees page.

Volunteer to Speak or Write

Interested in presenting as part of a NACUA program or authoring a NACUA publication? Complete the volunteer speaker-author form and indicate your areas of expertise. The information you submit will be kept on file for one year in the NACUA Speaker & Author Volunteer Database. Though we cannot guarantee that you will be selected to present or write, your details will be available to NACUA staff and member volunteers who serve on program planning groups and editorial boards.

Your participation is a crucial element of our ongoing efforts to ensure that our speakers and authors represent the rich diversity of the NACUA membership. The database helps us identify speakers and authors of the highest caliber across all levels of experience and perspective, individual demographics, and institutional characteristics.
